This week I have been reflecting on the names of God. I remember learning when I was a wee girl in Sunday school that the first name God gave for Himself in the Old Testament, YHWH, was so holy to the Jewish nation that they would not even speak it aloud. This is a stark contrast from the crude misuses of God’s name in our culture today.
God’s name has so much power. At His name, darkness burns away. At His name, sickness retreats. At His name, demons tremble.
Call upon that name. YHWH, Elohim, Yahweh Yireh, El Elyon, Yahweh Shalom, El Shaddai. He will answer. “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Whatever the circumstances, call on Him and He will be faithful.
